Search by color — down to the hue degree.

"Warm" is not a color direction. Motion Index's color filters work the way a colorist thinks: exact hue ranges on the color wheel, saturation levels, and how light and shadow are distributed across the frame.

Every shot in the library is color-indexed, so a palette query is a first-class search — not a tag someone maybe applied.

Three dimensions of color control

Each filter can be used alone or stacked with the others:

  • Hue — select an exact range of the color wheel. Select two ranges at once for duotone palettes: teal-and-orange, magenta-and-cyan, whatever the brief demands.
  • Saturation — from fully desaturated to vivid, so "muted luxury" and "candy-pop" stop being arguments and start being settings.
  • Luminance distribution — define how much of the frame lives in shadow versus light. A shot that's 80% deep shadow with one hot highlight is findable as exactly that.

Palette-first referencing

Color is usually the first thing a client reacts to and the most expensive thing to change after the grade. Locking the palette at the reference stage — with shots that already prove the palette works in motion — removes the most common revision cycle in commercial production.

Combine color filters with industry categories or text search: "watch films, dark and desaturated, one warm highlight" is a three-filter query, not an afternoon on Vimeo.

Frequently asked

Can I search for a duotone look?

Yes — select two hue ranges at once and the results match shots built on that two-color palette.

How is this different from mood or style tags?

It isn't tagging. Every shot is analyzed for its actual hue, saturation, and luminance values, so the filters operate on measured color, not on someone's label.
